When my wife and I went to Italy for our anniversary trip, our first stop was Rome. We wanted to experience something unforgettable, so we decided to book a table at All’Oro, a one Michelin Star restaurant that prides itself on its creative approach to food. We could see this creativity from our first bite to the last.
As we entered, we were welcomed to our table in the dimly lit and intimate dining room. Our first course was a “Welcome Appetizer,” which featured one-bite snacks. The most intriguing one was a tomato “bomb” that exploded in our mouths, offering a robust tomato flavor. After savoring these snacks, we were served a “Tiramisù” made of Potatoes, Salted Cod, and Cinta Senese Pork Cheek. This dish had the appearance and texture of tiramisu but delighted our taste buds with potato and cod flavors. It was truly unique and delicious. Following this, we indulged in one of our favorites of the night: Cabonara Reduction. Encased within an eggshell, it offered an exquisite and creamy carbonara taste.
Next up were the entrée courses. First, we enjoyed Raviolini Pasta filled with Mascarpone Cheese, Duck Ragout, and a Red Wine reduction. To enhance our experience, we added truffles on top, and they imparted a delightful earthiness to the dish. Next was the creative Cappelletti “Dry Broth” with Parmesan, Saffron, and lemon. Our waiter explained that this dish is traditionally served in a broth, but this version had the broth enclosed within the pasta. Taking a bite released the broth, providing a delightful surprise. The final entrée of the night was the “Rocher” of Oxtail vaccinara style with Celery Gelée. The oxtail was skillfully shaped into a ball and coated in nuts. It was remarkably tender, and the nuts contributed an appealing textural contrast.
Finally, dessert arrived. We had the All’Oro Tiramisù, essentially a deconstructed tiramisu. Each element was presented uniquely, but together, they recreated the traditional tiramisu flavor.
In summary, this was an incredibly unique menu that put creative spins on Italian classics. Every flavor was delightful, and each dish was expertly prepared. This restaurant unquestionably lives up to its Michelin Star and should be a top choice for a memorable dinner in Rome.
